TECHS

Techs stands for Team Educators for Child Safety.  We are a group of public safety, medical and education professionals and child safety advocates certified as child passenger safety technicians. As a non-profit organization, TECHS receives support from local sponsors who share our mission.  TECHS will graciously accept donations from the public in order to continue our efforts for child safety.   Because at least nine out of ten car seats locally are improperly installed, our mission is to teach parents and caregivers about the safest ways to transport children.  We advocate the proper use of child seats according to the manufacturer's instructions. Every situation is different and not every seat fits every vehicle.  We will make the best recommendation to you and work with you for a proper installation.  We ask you to help so that you can confidently secure your child in your vehicle, so that every ride is a safe ride.

Yvonne Zanos

Recently, we learned about the death of our friend and Advisory Board member Yvonne Zanos.  The Team Educators for CHild Safety would like to extend our deepest sympathy to Yvonne's family and to thank them for sharing her with all of Pittsburgh.  Yvonne became an icon in the Pittsburgh media for tackling so many of the difficult issues that local families encounter daily including the complexity of installing a car seat in the family vehicle.  Yvonne's commitment to child passenger safety generated from her love and concern for her own grandchildren's safety.  She became interested in car seats when she attended a car seat check as the consumer reporter for a local television station.  As the story progressed it became obvious to Yvonne that her granddaughter's car seat may not be installed properly.  After educating her about the proper way to install car seats and the incompatibility with some seats and vehicles she became our biggest supporter in the media.  Yvonne served on the TECHS Advisory Board from the inception and promoted child passenger safety in many, many stories down through the years.  We will certainly miss her and her cheerful outlook on the world.  Thank you, Yvonne.
